The backwaters in the afternoon

You would think that I'd be done talking about Kerala after a week home
but there's just so much too show you
and yesterday I missed out on a post totally
well well...

we bordered our houseboat in Alleppy
and from that moment on it was all about relaxing..
welcome to glide along with me and get a glimpse of life around the backwaters

"our" house boat - a Kettuvallam, for 24 hours...

we had a crew of three on board

the water means everything here
everything is done, in or around the water..
like doing the laundry..

we have never seen so many churches as we did in Kerala..
of course there are churches along the backwaters also..

best way to do transports is on the water...
but we did see some canoes that looked like they where taking in water because they where so overfilled....
here... sand on it's way to a building site

bricks...

a chat under a palm tree ...

houses all along....some new some old, some big and fancy and some just huts....
see that the house lays under the water level....
interesting..

of course fishing is the thing around here and I was happy to see this fisherman
standing in his canoe and throwing out his net...

in it goes...
and so would I have done...I mean I would have thrown myself in...
just try doing this from a canoe....without falling in

ooops, did you notice the guy in the window ? I didn't at first..

it was really busy on the waterways...house boats, canoes, boat buses and other kinds of boats....

you'll find everything along the water....restaurants, shops, post offices, schools and churches etc

a huge beautiful house  with it's own little canal of course
you need to park your boats somewhere...

both men, women and children handle the canoes perfectly
I hope they know how to swim!

 never ending amazing views..

a Kingfisher....

we stopped at the fish market and had a look at "giant" shrimps
4 of those giants = one kilo!=Rs 1400

and mud crabs... they also had all kinds of fish...

busy place....everyone wanted to buy fish...

I managed to get a shot of this Brahmin kite or fish eagle ...not a good one but still...

laid back life...chatting under the coconut trees....

kids having fun...

preparing food...I guess fish since I see cats eating left overs...

different vessel...

nuns waiting for the boat bus and some fishermen in a canoe...

it was school nuns..

see the cat besides the woman....looking for fish and she's

cleaning fish....wonderful...

after an afternoon gliding along the waterways the day was coming to an end..
the boats have to dock when the sun sets, around 6, because then all the fishing boats come out...

what a wonderful afternoon...
views and fresh air...
I put one foot into bed and
zzzzzzzz
