Polo for a good cause

almost two weeks ago we went to our first polo match....and this time I'm not talking about water polo ! it was polo with horses....I have wanted to go and see a match ever since we got here ....now we got the chance because this was part of  Operation Smile... a charity event for raising money for operations  for people born with cleft....we contributed by getting tickets that included dinner and the polo match...
so off we went to the Jaipur polo grounds in Delhi....

I had a little peek behind the scenes...a player needs to have 3 or 4 horse ready...it was beautiful, well trained horses...

the kit...

warming up the horses...

there's apparently always a band playing.....here with the teams....so as you can see there's 4 players to a team and the referees....

the referee had a belt with...balls...

and the match was on...can you find the ball?....not a ot of action here....but

off they went..it's a game with lots of sprints and quick stops...the horses can stop faster than the cars here....so well trained...

look at those muscles in action...for clarification...I meant the horses !

close encounters is part of the game...the clubs needs to be up in the air so that the horses don't get hurt....

the blue poles are the goals...the teams switches sides every time there's a goal...

beautiful horse and Tetra Pak is the main sponsor...I think Operation Smile has been up and running for like ten years now....so many people has been helped through operations....

the match is 4x7 minutes and some few minutes in between....I think they only switched horses and then the game was on again....

since this was a charity event I was told it was more of a friendship game....the guy in the yellow shirt was the best player on the field...he had the highest handicap ?

getting the ball ready...he was pegging it up like you do in golf....
the match ended...with one team winning !
we had a great afternoon at the polo grounds so I'm sure that we will be back again to see some other match....
and it felt good to have donated to such a good cause.
Hope this wednesday turns out to be a great one for you dear reader !
