Hotel Imperial and the Spice Route

Another birthday….Mr Gunnar turned 50? something so I booked a table at the Spice Route which is at Hotel Imperial right in the heart of Delhi…

"The hotel is connected to a fascinating part of history of the city as well as India. It was during the year 1911 when King Emperor George V had declared New Delhi as the capitol of India. The Imperial was built and run by S.B.S Ranjit Singh. The 24 king palms that lead up to the porch are an integral part of and witness to the very creation of New Delhi. The Hotel was designed to be one of the finest monuments….a unique blend of Victorian, old colonial and Art Deco style. The hotel was named and conferred the exquisite Lion Insignia by Lady Willington."

according to birthday boy we where off to a good start….

a tour of the hotel to look at some of the art is a must at this museum hotel !

love the floor….and we did see some iron furniture from I guess the beginning in 1911….

Me like…..love the fancy stores…

it really feels like an old english bar….

our evening started with Singapore Slings….and then we treated the birthday "boy"to

dinner at the Spice Route( heralded as one of the top ten restaurants in the world by Condé Nest Traveler) it took 7 years to build this restaurant…2 of these pillars are 400 years old

if you visit you have to ask to get the tour of the restaurant…it's fascinating …..well, at least we all thought so..

(credit to Katrin for some of the pictures)
